Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Now Available in Hamilton County
“You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.” — Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is now available in Hamilton County, Indiana. This program provides free age-appropriate books which are mailed monthly to children, from birth up until their fifth birthday.
Any child under the age of five who resides in Hamilton County may enroll. Enrollment is free and can be done online at ImaginationLibrary.com. Registered children will receive a new book in the mail each month, and the books are selected by literacy experts and designed to support early literacy skills. If a family has more than one child under the age of five, they are each eligible to register individually and receive their own books. Every child born in the same year receives the same books, appropriate for their age. Because the books are addressed to each individual child, each be able to build their own libraries of quality books.
The cost for this program is currently funded for its first three years by local partners and donations. Hamilton County’s program is a collaboration of local public libraries, the CenterPoint Energy Foundation, the Hamilton County Community Foundation, and the Hamilton County Council. Westfield Washington Public Library is proud to be part of this collaboration.
Having books available in the home can make a lasting difference, and this program helps families build home libraries at no cost to themselves. Children who are read to regularly are more prepared for school, and parents and guardians who read to their children help foster a lifelong love of books.
