WWPL Seeks to Serve the Community

Westfield Washington Public Library is here to serve and bring together our growing community.

When you think of a public library, what images spring to mind for you? Endless shelves of reference books? Card catalogs? Musty archives? Obviously those images had their day in public libraries of the past, but today’s public libraries are so much more. Along with physical books and audio visual items to check out and take home, libraries have become community meeting spaces and hubs for innovation and exploration.

Westfield Washington Public Library is filling this need in the Westfield community and welcoming more people and groups to our facility with each passing day. With the Summer Reading Program in full swing, nearly every day is bustling with activity and programming. From science programs to magicians and from art programs to poetry workshops, the wide array of activities provide entertainment and educational enrichment opportunities for all ages and interests.

Our ELL (English Language Learner) classes continue to surge in popularity, and our study rooms are filled with tutors and professionals, utilizing our spaces every day.

The Makerspace offers creative STEM classes for school aged children, teens and adults, and it is also a busy gathering area for craft programs and special projects. Open hours in the Makerspace are available on most days, and our staff is here to help you with your questions.

Game and puzzle lovers gather at the library too, finding community in competition. We host Bingo events, Scrabble nights, American Mahjong play and instruction, puzzle competitions and trivia programs, to name a few. Participants are encouraged to bring family and friends, or to come alone and make new friends.

Book Group opportunities are growing as well, and we are adding an Adult Nonfiction Book Group to our current array of book groups, beginning in August. If mysteries or fiction are more your style, we’ve got those too, as well as a Tween Book Group that is meeting this summer. Writers might want to try our Westfield Writers Group if they like to find inspiration or encouragement from fellow writers.

Digital resources are available inside and outside of the building, and our staff is ready to help get you set up to access these resources if you need assistance. Just stop at the Adult or Children’s desks and they’ll be happy to help.

We’ve hosted community gatherings like Westfield Wellness Day and Westfield Creative Collective in recent days, and knowing that we are able to bring people together as Westfield continues to grow is one of the most exciting benefits of our new building.

Outreach programs take our resources and services beyond the physical building, as this is also an important part of our mission to serve and assist our Westfield community.

As we go forward, we are already planning for the future. The library is engaged in a strategic planning process and we want to hear from our community. Your responses will help to inform our future plans. We invite you to participate in our Community Survey, and we value your input. Thank you for your participation. The survey will be open until the end of June 2025.
