Westfield Washington Public Library and the Westfield Washington Township Trustee’s Office are breaking ground, literally, in the coming months as they kick off a new and exciting landscaping project, the Read & Roam Garden.

This new outdoor space will transform WWPL’s outdoor area into an open-air classroom and park, complete with shaded structures, reading nooks, water features, ADA-accessible tables, drinking fountains, and newly landscaped green spaces.

Available for programs, reading, play, and connecting with nature, the new Read & Roam Garden will be the final piece of the new library’s plan. As WWPL Executive Director Sheryl Sollars said, “It will expand our programming possibilities in such exciting ways – from story times under the shade structures to family activities and summer learning events. And the best part is patrons can watch the progress through the library’s many windows and outdoor patios.”

Westfield Washington Township, whose offices are located on the western side of the shared building, is also looking forward to utilizing the new outdoor space in numerous ways, including space for summer camps and youth programs.

The library has always been focused on ways to better serve its patrons and community, and building this new garden area just outside its doors will expand the possibilities for learning, connecting, and relaxing, right next to the library building and its array of resources.

The Westfield Library Foundation has launched a fundraising campaign and is currently selling personalized engraved bricks that will become part of the permanent installation. You can order your custom brick here!

The Read & Roam Garden project was designed by Mader Design and will be constructed by KD Landscaping. Work is set to begin soon, with completion expected by the end of summer.
